Anglesey is a treasure trove of creativity. Artisans from across the world flock to the island for inspiration, collaboration, and to sell their wonderful products at our local markets and festivals.

So, it was only right that we dedicated this small space to celebrating Anglesey’s unique artisan heritage – both the old and new. From home-grown chocolate delights, to delicious preserves, and one of a kind paper prints, we are lucky to have such a range of talent and innovators on our doorstep.

With this in mind, here are some of our favourite local artisans taking Anglesey by storm.

1. Halen Môn

Halen Môn has wowed the culinary world with its pure, high-quality salt and delicious flavour combinations.

The natural sea salt is harvested straight from the shores of North Wales and is a sparkling tribute to Anglesey’s natural beauty and rich natural resources.

But not only does it taste delicious, Halen Môn undergoes a rigorous filtering process to ensure it meets the purest standards.

The salt water is filtered using local charcoal and is gently heated in a vacuum to ensure the product boils at a low temperature. Eventually, this process yields beautiful salt crystals which are raked – by hand – from the water into their own unique trays.

And to make sure the salt crystals maintain their easily-identifiable shine, they are rinsed in brine and left to dry naturally.

Halen Môn has since ventured far from its humble beginnings, and is now available in a tantalising selection of flavours. Recent offerings have included ‘mermaid confetti’ (also known as laver seaweed), garlic sea salt, and even a delicious Umami blend made from Celtic seaweed and Snowdonia shiitake mushrooms.

We think this is one of the best examples of local Anglesey produce at its finest.

2. The Four Principles

Based on the four principles of solitude, acceptance, gratitude, and nurture rituals, these fragrant candles are unlike anything else in Anglesey.

Each candle has been created using pure essential oils and evokes a beautiful fragrance to help guide you through each principle. These are handmade products and have been lovingly created to help release tension and achieve complete relaxation during the meditation process.

And what’s better, these candles are made from 100% soy wax, meaning they are suitable for people with a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle.

In addition to crafting handmade candles, however, the Four Principles also offers retreat days throughout the year – where advocates can join together and enjoy gentle meditation.

So, if you would like to learn more about the Four Principles and read some testimonials, then visit the website today.

3. Pots of Indulgence

Pots of Indulgence are based exclusively in Anglesey and produce some of the finest artisan chocolate sauces in the region.

For those of you who would like to see Pots of Indulgence in action, this wonderful company frequently attends lots of Anglesey artisan fairs to share its produce and offer new delicious treats to the public.

And don’t be surprised to see a chocolate fountain or two.

There are lots of wonderful places to eat on Anglesey (not least at our very own Deck House!), however, sometimes it’s nice to get out and about and experience the other delights of the island.    Here are our pick of the best restaurants in Anglesey, we think you should visit them all and hope that you enjoy every last morsel!

White Eagle

The White Eagle’s reputation for fantastic food and drink stretched far and wide, it even appears in the 2014 Michelin Guide. This fantastic pub, a mere walk away from Silver Bay, was refurbished and extended in 2007. The surroundings are idyllic, it’s dog-friendly and the beer is refreshing. Owner Alex Timpson has succeeded in creating the perfect pub for the family or just for you and that’s just why it’s on our best restaurants in Anglesey list.

Marram Grass

A delightfully quirky restaurant, a renovated potting shed, where all the food is homemade (even the mayo) and the staff are incredibly welcoming, attentive and friendly. The entrance is somewhat hidden to the side of the driveway to a caravan park, but this place is absolutely worth seeking out. The menu is varied and bursting with local produce at brilliant prices. The food is marvellous here, in fact the whole place really is an unexpected joy and we can’t recommend it enough!

It is a warm, friendly place to enjoy the finest food with all the family.

Tavern on The Bay

Originally built as a marine cottage in 1924, the tavern has become, over the years, one of the premier dining locations in Anglesey. Its recently had a £700,000 refurbishment and is now an absolute joy to visit. The coastal views over Red Wharf and Benllech Beach are spectacular, the menu is creative and varied and this is a place where you can sit back, truly relax and take in the scenery. Fabulous on every level, giving it a very well deserved place on our best restaurants in Anglesey list.

Seacroft

A 5 star pub and restaurant with rooms if you fancy staying over (and why not when the environment is as lovely as this?) The Seacroft can be found in Treaddur Bay where you can soak up the spring sunshine on the tiered decking after a walk on the coastal path or simply because you fancy a pint and something splendid to eat. The food is wonderful, fresh and local. The prime steaks are sourced from local butchers and aged for 21 days, there’s a pizza oven and the pizzas (including the famous ‘all day breakfast pizza’) are rolled out to order. Lovely stuff!

We hope this has given you plenty of inspiration for eating out in Anglesey! If you would like to find out more about life here at Silver Bay, you can download our brochure for more information.

Easter Bank Holiday weekend at Silver Bay Holiday Village weekend was a cracker! Springtime danced into Anglesey with a smile, the weather was glorious and there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Our younger residents prepared for the arrival of the Easter bunny with an afternoon of crafting for our annual Easter bonnet competition. The parade of most marvellous creations brought together all of our families for a lovely afternoon of fun and laughter. Then the Easter egg hunt kicked off and the kids were completely involved in this much loved tradition, seeking out eggs and enjoying their feast of chocolate.

Even the dads displayed their Wayne Rooney-esque skills during the football competition, much to the audience’s hilarity. Everyone proceeded to enjoy a well-earned pint or two and the launch of a new range of pizzas in the Hay House Bistro to aid their recovery. Following the Easter egg hunt and bonnet making competition, Sunday evening saw the kids exhaust themselves completely with a disco (that they loved) to burn off their chocolate fuelled energy!

The Silver Bay Spa was bustling with residents enjoying the pool and the gym. Silver Bay beach came alive in the sunshine with families coming together and making the most of the newly opened beach hut selling delicious ice creams and drinks. Easter always feels like the ultimate celebration of springtime and togetherness, especially at Silver Bay where there is so much happiness for the whole family to experience. The start of the holiday season is upon us and we can’t wait to share the next few months with you. Keep coming back here to find out what we have in store!

Garden only tickets are £8.10 for adults and £4.10 for children over 5.

For children who are farm, butterfly or bug enthusiasts, Pili Palas Nature World near the Menai bridge is the place to be. Young wannabe farmers won’t want to miss out on Foel Farm park, where the whole family can experience a real working farm, with lots of opportunities for interaction with the animals in addition to tractor and trailer rides. For those who just can’t get enough of the Easter chocolate, Foel Farm even has a chocolate workshop for everyone to watch chocolates being made. Their annual Easter egg hunt takes place this year on the 5th April at 1pm; the likely presence of lambs and other baby animals will complete the Easter theme! Entry is £6.95 for adults and £5.95 for children aged 3+.

Those with an interest in history and medieval castles will want to get in on the activities at Beaumaris Castle, where the medieval household are winding back the clock to the times of Edward I from 3rd – 6th April. There is another Easter egg hunt taking place in the castle, 11am – 4pm on the 5th April; so if you fancy a day stepping back in time, with stunning views of Snowdonia and the Menai Straits, this is the castle for you. The egg trails on Easter Sunday are £5.25 for adults and £3.90 for under 16’s, and the medieval days are £4.50 for adults and £3.40 for under 16’s.

The beautiful town of Rhosneigr is only a 25 minute drive from Silver bay, home to The Oyster Catcher. This is a beautiful restaurant situated with an unobstructed view of the Irish sea, that is also hosting its very own Easter egg hunt which will be £1 starting 10.15am on 5th April; there will also be a best bonnet competition for kids to show off creative flair and optional fancy dress! So while the children are running around enjoying the trail, adults can sit down for a drink in one of the beach shacks overlooking the sea or experience a meal prepared by the cadets in the chef’s academy – a delicious feast guaranteed!

With the weather looking like rain will be holding off from the Rhoscolyn area during the Easter period, fingers crossed for some sun so everyone can take in some of the spring fresh air! However you choose to spend your Easter break, we wish you a happy Easter from all of us at Silver Bay!
