The big thaw can only mean an even bigger NYE party
As much as we love snow and while we enjoyed the novelty of having the white stuff on Anglesey, we’re pretty thankful that it has finally melted away, making getting around that little bit easier. It was fun for a day or two but in the end the disruption it caused outweighed the frozen beauty it brought with it.
We’re really grateful that the return of more mild weather has allowed passage along the A55 to Wales to resume, meaning our lodge owners, many of whom struggled to get here earlier this month, can make the trip over for New Year.
We’re looking forward to some New Year’s Eve celebrations at Silver Bay tonight, with music and great wine on offer in our bar. If it stays dry we’re hoping there may be a bonfire on the beach so we can welcome the New Year in under the stars.
We hope it will be a memorable night and we plan to make the most of it, particularly as the cold snap is set to return in 2011. Lets hope that after this bitterly cold winter we’ll be in for a scorcher of a summer!

Get away to Anglesey for the royal wedding weekend
The date for the big day has been set so clear your diaries for a long weekend and a lavish royal wedding.
Here at Silver Bay we’re not only looking forward to seeing the Prince and the lovely Kate Middleton tie the knot, we’re also thrilled at the prospect of an extra four day weekend, which will mean another chance for our lodge owners to visit, relax and enjoy some spring time fun on Anglesey.
The wedding, which takes place on the 29 April, will nicely round off two successive four-day weekends. Next year Good Friday will fall on 22 April, Easter Sunday on the 24th, and Easter Monday on the 25th, with the wedding taking place the following Friday, before the spring bank holiday on the Monday. Those who have had the foresight to book time off work in advance could enjoy ten days away while using only three days of their annual holiday allowance.
Where better to spend the weekend of the royal wedding than here on Anglesey? After all, it is set to become the couple’s home as long as William is stationed at RAF Valley and as such we’re sure there will be lots going on locally to mark the big occasion.

The treasures of Treardurr Bay
As much as we love our own beautiful bay we know that our lodge owners may feel like a change of scene during their holidays with us and we can’t recommend a trip to nearby Trearddur Bay enough. Located to the south of Holyhead, it’s just a ten-minute drive from Silver Bay and has everything you could want for a relaxing family day at the beach.
Mysterious coves and dramatic rocky outcrops give Trearddur’s beautiful sandy stretches the magical quality that has been tempting explorers on foot and in boats for centuries. The magnificent beach is even the site of an ancient burial ground, which was excavated in 2003.
There are two beaches at the bay, the main beach and Port Dafarch. Trearddur’s main beach had to be fortified after a severe storm in 2007 and it now has a fantastic new promenade with seating. A little known fact about the beach is that it has its own patron saint, Saint Ffraid. A Celtic cross monument in honour of Saint Ffraid was put in place by the beach in 2000.
Children love exploring the bay’s many rock pools which are full of small sea creatures. The clear waters are perfect for swimming and there are some shallow scuba diving sites in the bay. It is a popular spot for jet skis and boats and the Trearddur Bay Sailing Club holds an annual Regatta every August with a number of races taking place. The area also offers excellent opportunities for sea fishing.
And for those who prefer to stay on dry land, horse riding can be a fun way to take in the great views. Families with young children may also enjoy a trip to the nearby park, which has swings and climbing frames for the little ones.
The Waterfront eatery serves food during the day and its patio area looks over the bay, offering fabulous views across the water.
If you are planning a trip to Trearddur Bay there are a number spots for free parking but these can fill up fast, particularly during the summer months and on bank holidays. If you are travelling by car we recommend getting there early.
To get a better feel for the bay before planning a trip you can have a look at some of the many videos of the bay on YouTube.

‘It never snows on Anglesey’
Snow is something of a rarity on Anglesey and earlier this week there were tweets aplenty declaring ‘it never snows on Anglesey’. Well, make that almost never because snow it has, although admittedly not to the same extent as in other parts of the UK.
Although some parts of Anglesey have not been affected, Anglesey Airport had to suspend flights due to the snow and travel disruptions even scuppered the Queen’s plans to pay a visit to RAF Valley. There have also been a handful of school closures and several minor car accidents (fortunately nobody has been injured).
Here at Silver Bay we’ve had a beautiful sprinkling of snow, getting us into the Christmas spirit earlier than usual. There is something about snow, which despite the inconvenience it brings with it, puts a smile on our faces. Perhaps because we don’t see it that often it is nothing more than the novelty value of the much-maligned white stuff that we love but we still feel there is a magical quality to snow. Needless to say, kids in the area have been delighted by the snowfall, making the most of it with snowball fights and snowmen galore.
On the more mundane practical side of things, our timber lodges have really been put to the test during this cold snap and have thankfully come through with flying colours. They offer a wonderfully cosy retreat from the arctic conditions, with great views of the frozen countryside all around – perfect for curling up with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book.
For those hardy enough to venture out for walks in spite of the big freeze, lots of layers, hats, scarves and gloves really are essential. And a flask of hot soup for the road is a good idea too. It’s treacherous underfoot so we recommend treading carefully whilst admiring the snow smattered treetops and frost kissed verges.
According to the forecast the cold spell should be moving on by the end of next week, with warmer temperatures and next to no chance of snow. But if the forecasters are wrong (and lets face it they often are) we could have a white Christmas to look forward to! To which we say turn up the Bing Crosby and passed the mulled wine please.

An island fit for a future king
We’ve never been ones to jump on the bandwagon but after the big announcement on Tuesday what else could we possibly blog about but the forthcoming royal nuptials!
Not only are we delighted that the young lovebirds have finally decided to tie the knot (there’s nothing like a royal wedding to lift public spirits), we’re really thrilled at all the publicity Anglesey has received off the back of the news that the couple will set up home together on the island. Since being stationed at Anglesey’s RAF Valley it would seem Prince William has discovered the island’s natural charm for himself and decided it’s the perfect location for the marital home.
Regulars at our local watering hole, The White Eagle in Rhoscolyn, will tell you they have seen the couple pop in on occasion and they’ve even been spotted at the nearby Tesco in Holyhead.
William is currently living in a picturesque rented farmhouse and is often joined by Kate at weekends but we’ll have to wait and see which property they choose to move into after the big day. If you’re reading this William – we’ve got some fabulous timber lodges with spectacular sea, mountain and countryside views!

48-hours away from it all
Theres a lot to be said for the humble weekend break. Yes, a week away is glorious and a fortnight away is even better but the weekend break is often underrated.
With the autumn half term holiday behind us, there are a good few weeks to go until the end of term so a weekend break is the only way for many families to enjoy a change of scene at this time of year. November and December can be a stressful period as coughs and colds wreak havoc and the pressure of Christmas shopping takes hold, so a weekend away can provide some much needed R&R for parents and children alike.
Anglesey is an ideal destination for a weekend break in the UK and even inclement winter weather does nothing to detract from the tranquil beauty of the North Wales countryside. There’s plenty to do both indoors and out and we guarantee that 48-hours of sea air will leave you feeling fully refreshed and ready to tackle day-to-day responsibilities at home or at work with renewed vigour.
So if you’re feeling a bit under the weather or if you want to get away from it all, we highly recommend spending a weekend here on Anglesey.

A perfect autumn afternoon
So far it has been a very mild autumn here on Anglesey and the glorious weather last Sunday was no exception. Crisp, colourful leaves and cool, fresh air combined with the amber hues of autumnal sunlight to create an afternoon perfect for walking.
It was a great opportunity to amble across the headland to Rhoscolyn and the renowned White Eagle pub. This walk follows part of the Anglesey Coastal Path and affords great views of sea scarred cliffs and sapphire waters to one side and beautiful green pastures to the other.
Having taken in the views and sea air, the White Eagle is the perfect place to stop for a refreshing drink. The pub, which is listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide, offers an extensive selection of real ales and also has a mouth-watering menu for walkers who have worked up an appetite. Children are welcome and there is a separate kids menu.
If you time your departure right, you can make your return journey as the sun sets, before finishing the afternoon’s activities with a warming drink at the Silver Bay bistro.

Happy Halloween Silver Bay!
We’re counting down to our Halloween party tomorrow and with just over 24 hours to go we’ve got lots to prepare.
This afternoon we’ll be pumpkin carving like crazy in a bid to create some really original jack-o’-lanterns. Apparently the world record for the most jack-o’-lanterns lit in one place is 30,128. We won’t be carving quite that many, it’s quality not quantity as far as we’re concerned!
Our next task is decorating the bistro and we’re considering a number of Halloween classics, so expect to see cobwebs, dangling bats and even the odd spider (plastic of course).
Once we’ve made the bistro look its spooky best, we’ll be putting the finishing touches to our costumes. It might be a kids’ party but we grown-ups will be getting into the spirit of things too. We suspect that some of the Silver Bay gang have taken the easy option and ordered ready-made Halloween costumes on the internet but nothing beats a DIY costume, so we’ll be looking out for unique homemade outfits when we award the prizes for the best costumes.
Don’t forget to bring your cameras with you. We want to see as many ghoulish pictures as possible posted on our Facebook page.

The great staycation phenomenon isn’t going anywhere
The staycation trend has been around for two years now and we don’t think it’ll be disappearing anytime soon. The term was coined back in 2008 when the recession really began to take hold and Brits heading abroad were faced with expensive flights and an unfavourable exchange rate. These two factors made staying in good old Blighty more appealing than ever. Having sampled the great holiday offering that’s right on the doorstop, we think the humble staycation has found a special place in people’s hearts.
For those who have become staycation converts we would like to be so bold as to suggest that there is no better place to go than Anglesey. We’ve got it all! There’s the beautiful coastline and everything that goes with it (sailing, fishing, water sports and sandy beaches). Then there’s the glorious countryside, which is perfect for walking, horse riding and picnics. There’s the rich history of the island, from the ancient druids to our wonderfully preserved lighthouse and windmill. And of course there’s the fabulous local produce, summed up by popular events like the Anglesey Oyster Festival and the famous Anglesey Show. In short there’s every reason to fall in love with Anglesey and having fallen in love with its inimitable charm, there’s every reason to visit time and time again.
If you’re a regular Anglesey staycationer, buying a holiday home on the island could be the sensible option. The benefits are obvious. You can head to your little getaway whenever you like, no more fully booked hotels to foil your plans and no need to give any prior notice of your visit. You can make sure your holiday home is stocked with everything you may need to enjoy your staycations, so no more carting the kitchen sink back and forth. And perhaps most importantly of all, you can make the most of visiting a place you love as often as you possibly can. Why blow all your spare cash on an expensive foreign holiday for two weeks of the year when you can indulge in a break away from it all at your holiday home every weekend?
Our timber lodges are ideally suited to doing just that. As far as holiday homes go, they’re pretty luxurious with stylish furniture and fittings, plus sea, mountain or countryside views to boot. So if you’d like to holiday where you can wake up with the sea to your left and Snowdonia to your right, buying a lodge at Silver Bay could be the best choice for you.

There’s treat in store for Halloween at Silver Bay
Silver Bay will be transforming itself into Spooky Bay at the end of this month with some ghoulish family fun planned for Halloween.
With russet coloured leaves falling everywhere and the nights rapidly drawing in, it’s really starting to feel autumnal. What better way to get into the spirit of the season than joining in with the spooktastic Halloween party at our bistro?
Get your broomsticks, capes and fangs out because we want to see some really monstrous costumes this year. Witches, wizards, vampires, werewolves, ghosts and devils all welcome!
We absolutely love this time of year and can’t wait to sink our teeth into some traditional toffee apples and enjoy a cider or two in the bar.
We really hope you’ll be able to join us for the half term break and take part in our Halloween fun. The weather is set to be mild and pleasant so it could be the perfect time to get away from it all before winter sets in.
And if you can’t make it for Halloween, don’t forget that bonfire night is just round the corner.

Britain’s most haunted lighthouse
If you’re planning a spooky weekend away for Halloween next month Anglesey could be just the place.
Beautiful though they are, Anglesey has more to offer than just pristine beaches and the island is in fact rich in historical attractions.
Last month the South Stack lighthouse near Holyhead received the top ‘ghost rating’ in the book Haunted Britain by renowned ghost-hunter, Richard Jones.
We’re a little sceptical about things that go bump in the night, but if you’re after some spine tingling family fun a tour of the lighthouse could be just the thing. It is believed to be haunted by the ghost of John Jack Jones, who was swept to his death when he tried to warn ships of a terrible storm. John Jack’s father also died at the lighthouse under mysterious circumstances in 1828.
If spooky goings-on leave you cold then this working lighthouse is still worth a visit. Its location offers spectacular views and nature lovers stand a good chance of seeing porpoises, dolphins and many different birds, including puffins from late April to early June. Time your visit right and you may even catch a breathtaking sun set to the west.

Prince William to stay on Anglesey for three more years
We’re pleased to see that Prince William has completed the final stage of his Royal Air Force helicopter flying training and we’re even more pleased to hear that he will be stationed at RAF Valley in Anglesey for the next three years. Cue droves of eager tourists scouring the skies over Silver Bay with their bird watching binoculars in the hope of a Royal sighting!
It is thought the prince will continue to live in the cottage he has been staying in since March rather than return to barracks at the base and we can’t say we blame him for picking the more scenic of the two options.
The Prince, or Flight Lieutenant Wales as he is now known on the job, is a fully operational search and rescue pilot flying a nine tonne Sea King helicopter having spent more than 70 hours flying plus 50 hours of simulator training (rather him than us). This should stand him in good stead when called on to rescue people from the sea, mountaintops and other areas in all different kinds of weather.
During his training the prince undertook a number of simulated rescue missions over the Irish Sea, the Atlantic and the mountains of our very own Snowdonia.
Helicopter rescue, which as this video shot at Port Dinllaen shows is both difficult and dangerous, provides an invaluable service to those who have found themselves in difficulty in hard to reach places. Just last month a man was swept into the sea off Anglesey after trying to retrieve a wheelie bin that had blown into the water.
Wills will be part of a four-person crew from ‘C’ Flight of 22 Squadron based at RAF Valley. It looks like he could have lots of busy days and nights ahead as ‘C’ Flight was one of the most active search and rescue flights in the UK last year, carrying out more than 322 rescues.
We hope he makes a great pilot and we’re sure we’re not the only ones who are grateful to have an excellent search and rescue team right on our doorstep.
And if you’re a Royal fanatic one of our luxury timber lodges could be just what you need to enjoy some creature comforts whilst keeping an eye on the sky for a glimpse of Prince William in action!

George is king of the castle
There’s nothing quite like building sandcastles to leisurely while away the hours at the seaside but the popular pastime took on a more serious guise during the annual Silver Bay Sandcastle Competition.
The competition, which was held right here on the beach, saw kids and adults, with their buckets and spades at the ready, battling it out for the title of ‘Best Sandcastle’.
The sandcastle designs ranged from the traditional, to the ambitious to the downright wacky, featuring everything from moats to turrets and even miniature flags.
With no more wind than a gentle breeze and plenty of sunshine, the weather was perfect for sandcastle construction.
The judges were faced with a tough decision once the time was up, as this year the standard of entries was particularly impressive. After surveying all the sandcastles and deliberating, they declared George the winner.
There were a number of sandcastles that really stood out but the judges felt that the design and style of George’s castle gave it the edge over the others. George will remain king of Silver Bay’s sandcastle competition until next year.

A fond farewell to summer
As the last bank holiday of the summer has come and gone we’ve decided to take a fond look back at the weekend’s activities before embracing the fast approaching autumn.
We were all mightily relieved to see August’s showers put on hold for all three days of the long weekend, which was nothing but blazing sunshine, red hot afternoons and warm evenings.
As you all know, we’re huge fans of sand and sea here at Silver Bay and the weather over the weekend was perfect for making the most of our coastal location.
Beach lovers had the chance to catch some rays and build up a tan to match our golden sands, while seafarers were up to their usual water activities on boats, jet skies and dinghies.
When the sun is out meal times mean only one thing here, beach barbeques! There were plenty in evidence over the bank holiday with lodge owners sociably gathering round to enjoy each other’s food and company.
All in all it’s been a fabulous summer and the bank holiday weekend was a perfect end to the season. We’re hoping for a few more days of sunshine this month but we’re also looking forward the brightly coloured leaves and crisp mornings of autumn.

The glass is always half full at the Silver Bay bar
Holidays in Silver Bay can be whatever you make them. Whether you decide to chill out on the beautiful sandy beaches, making the most of the breathtaking coastline or whether you prefer an action packed holiday full of surfing, hiking and kayaking, here in Anglesey there is a little something for everyone.
But whatever you decide to do on your holiday at Silver Bay, there’s nothing better after a long day of activities than relaxing in the bar with a refreshing glass of wine.
This summer, rosé wine has been a particular favourite at the bar. Over the last decade, rosé has become increasingly more popular with wine drinkers in the UK. While the taste may be similar to that of white wine, the unique ‘pink’ colour is created in the same way as a red wine, except the red grape skins only remain in the juice for a few days.
This season we’ve been serving the 2009 Mirabello Pinot Grigio Rosé from Chile. The fruity aroma of strawberries and cherries and the off-dry finish make this a very light, easy drinking wine.
If rosé is not really to your liking, we also have five other tempting wines to offer. For red lovers the 2009 Caliterra Reserve Merlot from Chile and the 2007 Navaja Crianza Rioja from Spain are our favourites.
White wine drinkers can enjoy the 2009 Caliterra Reserve Sauvignon Blanc from Chile and the 2009 Vidal Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand.
And for that little extra special something, the Lunetta Prosecco NV from Italy, is a fabulously fruity fizz for any evening at Silver Bay.

Head back to Silver Bay before it’s time to go back to school
There are just three weeks remaining for families to enjoy a break from it all before it’s time to wave the little darlings off to school again.
Admittedly, the weather in July was a tad disappointing but we’ve had some gloriously sunny days so far in August to make up for it and we’re hoping for more of the same before the new school term begins.
We’re hoping to see an influx of families with kids in tow over the bank holiday weekend, which could be one of the last chances to soak up some rays on the beach, paddle in the sea or hop in a dinghy before the summer comes to an end.
We’d love to see some pictures of your summer hols to keep us smiling through the autumn so don’t forget to get your camera out and post some snaps on our Facebook page.
There’s always the chance of a warm September (fingers crossed) but even in winter there’s plenty to see and do at Silver Bay and on Anglesey in general, and come rain or shine, it is without doubt one of the prettiest spots on the coast.

Anglesey puts on a great show
This week Anglesey has hosted one of its biggest events of the year – The Anglesey Show.
Every year, thousands of people (and animals) flock to this vast agricultural show, held at The Showground in Holyhead.
The show first took place 123 years ago and it has evolved over the years to become an entertaining and enjoyable day out for locals and visitors alike.
With everything from a giant vegetable competition, to craft tents, to a fun fair, to pony and falcon displays, it’s a perfect day out for families with children, who will no doubt also delight in tents displaying bunnies, goats and other friendly farm animals.
There is also usually an array of impressive farming equipment on show from across the ages, including modern tractors and harvesters, as well as more unusual implements and machinery from years gone by.
If you missed it this year, it’s well worth planning a trip to Anglesey to coincide with the show next summer. Just make sure you come prepared for sun or rain, wellington boots are a must in wet weather.
For information about the next Anglesey Show and to book tickets visit: www.angleseyshow.org.uk

Football’s coming to the Silver Bay bar
Football fans everywhere are eagerly anticipating the kick off of the new season and we’re no exception here at Silver Bay.
![]()
We’re sorry if football is not your bag, but we are unashamedly excited to see what the new season will bring and we’ll be showing every Premier League game in the Silver Bay bar.
We’re particularly looking forward to the usual top of the table clashes with what should be a gripping first game between Tottenham and Manchester City to start the season. It will also be interesting to see whether Blackpool, Newcastle and West Bromwich Albion live up to their newly earned Premier League status. Other games to watch will be Chelsea and Manchester United, and we’re looking forward to seeing whether Liverpool bounce back from their below par season last year.
If you’re as enthusiastic as we are why not join us in the bar to watch a game or several and enjoy some of our new range of wines. And if you’re not as enthusiastic as we are, at least you can still enjoy the wine or retire to the comfort of your luxurious timber lodge.

Life’s a beach
We’ve been thinking about how lucky we are here in Anglesey to have some of the best beaches in the UK. We often receive comments via Twitter about how stunning the pictures of Silver Bay look on our website and our response is that it’s even better to be here in the flesh.
![]()
Silver Bay is surrounded by rocky headlands on either side and sheltered from civilisation by a conifer plantation to the rear, so the wide sandy beach offers idyllic seclusion.
If you want to get away from it all, our totally isolated stretch of sand could be the picturesque escape you’ve been looking for. But we’re not alone in having a fabulous sandy beach and temptingly clear waters. No less than 14 beaches on Anglesey have received Green Coast Awards this year for their natural beauty and clean environment. The awards are presented annually by Keep Britain Tidy and represent outstanding quality.
We’re lucky not only to have our own wonderful beach to enjoy, but to be a stone’s throw away Rhoscolyn, which takes just 15 minutes to walk to, and we have a great view of the nearby Rhosneigr beaches too.

Toast to the summer with the Silver Bay Six
With the summer holidays well underway the Silver Bay beach has been packed with families. We’re looking forward to some sunshine and soaring temperatures – bikinis and speedos weather!
![]()
We’ll be holding our annual season opening party at the club on Saturday and more than 600 people have booked to attend. There’ll be good food, a disco with dancing and frivolity until the early hours of Sunday morning.
We’ll also be using the opening party as an opportunity to launch our fantastic new range of wines at the prices on offer – they truly are stonkers!
The wine connoisseurs amongst our lodge owners are in for a treat this summer thanks to the arrival of The Silver Bay Six at the bar. These summer stonkers are six different wines that have been specially selected to reflect the tastes of the season.
For the sauvignon blanc fans we have two new wines to choose from, the 2009 Caliterra Reserve Sauvignon Blanc from Chile, which is a tropical style of sauvignon with hints of guava and grapefruit and a refreshing finish, and the 2009 Vidal Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand, which is bursting with tangy gooseberry and sweet passion fruit flavours.
Rose lovers can enjoy the 2009 Mirabello Pinot Grigio Rose from Chile, which is a delicious, easy to drink rose, with strawberry and cherry fruit tastes and a pleasant off-dry finish.
The serious wine drinkers will appreciate our two red selections, the Caliterre Reserve Merlot 2009 from Chile, which has a silky consistency with lively plum and rich berry fruit flavours, and the Navaja Crianza Rioja 2007, from Spain, which is a smooth wine with a wonderfully mellow, sweet-spiced finish.
And if the holiday season puts you in the mood to celebrate with some bubbles we have the uplifting Lunetta Prosecco NV form Italy, this elegant fizz is summer in a glass with fresh peach and pear flavours.
We hope you’ll be raising a glass with us this summer and we’d love to know what you think of our new wine selection. You can leave a comment on our Facebook page or send us a message on Twitter.
And don’t forget you can share your Silver Bay holiday snaps on our Facebook page too.

School’s out for summer
The summer holidays are nigh, which means only one thing here at Silver Bay, it’s almost time for the annual influx of children.
![]()
We’re all set to start the kiddies summer off and we have plenty of fun activities planned to keep them occupied while mum and dad enjoy some quiet time.
The bay itself provides hours of children’s entertainment, from paddling to building sandcastles, to bobbing along the waves in dinghies - generations of kids have enjoyed playing by this sandy spot.
Anglesey as a whole is a fantastic place for families with children to holiday, offering all kinds of in and outdoor activities. For those with a historical interest nearby Beaumaris Castle is well worth a trip, while Penrhyn Castle in Bangor offers impressive grounds, a dolls’ museum, Victorian kitchens, an adventure playground and railway museum. On wet days Anglesey Sea Zoo is a great option. It houses an extensive range of weird and wonderful creatures from the deep as well as a pirate themed crazy golf course.
We’re very much looking forward to seeing all our lodge owners with young families again this summer.

Silver Bay dips into social media for the first time
![]()
You may or may not have noticed that we at Silver Bay plunged ourselves into the great social media pool last month and have been bathing in the delightful waters of general tittle-tattle, local news, promotions and humour ever since.
We were pleasantly surprised to discover lots of other businesses from the surrounding area and further afield were already very active on Facebook and particularly on Twitter. We’ve found a great community spirit on social networks and it’s fascinating to see what people get up to on a day-to-day basis.
We have virtually befriended a fantastic local photographer as well as fellow accommodation specialists, restaurateurs and hoteliers. Not to mention plenty of people who just love Wales, especially Anglesey.
We’re really enjoying having the opportunity for the first time to talk to individuals about our shared interests, from country walks to boating, from football to the weather. There’s always somebody with something to say and there’s always somebody to listen to you.
If you would like to follow our tweets just go to www.twitter.com/Silver_Bay or if you prefer Facebook you can ‘like’ our page here.

It’s a sailor’s life for me
![]()
There was even more fabulous weather to be enjoyed at Silver Bay last weekend, which lured our lodge owners out onto the water for some boating activities. The bay was awash with everything from dinghies to speedboats, there were even some rather impressive yachts to be seen out on the water.
Some were sailing pros while others were just out for a refreshing splash around as temperatures soared on the beach. Bystanders on the shore watched as water skiers skimmed across the waves and happy kids climbed aboard floating doughnuts hitched to the back of boats.
![]()
Despite living on an island with glorious coastlines we UK residents often overlook the fun to be had sailing and boating in our own backyard. Of course, during autumn and winter the weather doesn’t help but the joy of seafaring activities is one of the best things about summers at Silver Bay. Year after year a spirit of adventure and discovery prevails as families set off to explore the bay.
As June comes to an end we’re hoping to see even more boats out on the water in July and August.

It’s all kicking off in the Silver Bay bar
We’re anticipating a full house at the Silver Bay bar this evening where we’ll be screening the England v Algeria game for all our lodge owners to enjoy.
![]()
If the last England game we screened is anything to go by it should be a fun family evening with plenty of good spirited cheering, ‘arm chair’ commentary and hopefully not too many moans and groans.
It may have been a disappointing start for England last week but we’re taking heart in the fact that lots of the big teams, even the likes of Spain and Brazil, played underwhelming first games. And lets not forget the impact first game nerves could have had on the players.
We could certainly do with Rooney getting off the mark and scoring tonight but whatever the outcome, we’ll make sure there’s a party atmosphere for everyone here in the bar.
For all the football widows who don’t enjoy the beautiful game and want to escape World Cup mania for an hour or two, we highly recommend a serene sunset stroll along the beach.
Come on England!

Hot days and fiery nights at Silver Bay
Here at Silver Bay we decided to make the most of last week’s warm weather and mild nights by lighting what we hope will be the first of many campfires on the beach.
![]()
After throngs of lodge owners had enjoyed another sweltering day on the beach a number of impromptu barbeques sprang up across the sand. The scent of outdoor cooking from more than a dozen different barbeques drifted away on the warm evening breeze as everyone made the most of al fresco dining.
It wasn’t long before the different groups joined forces to dig a pit for a campfire to keep the evening’s sociable atmosphere going as the sun set and the stars began to come out. The children collected driftwood to burn and soon everybody was seated comfortably around the blazing fire.
Our new Chilean house wine, Caliterra, was going down well in all its forms (white, red and rosé) and some old fashioned singing around the campfire kept everybody entertained as night crept across the bay.
It was a perfect summer evening complete with good company, conversation and song. It’s amazing how much fun a simple campfire can be!

The sun has come out for Silver Bay
We’ve been enjoying a mini heat wave here at Silver Bay this week with blazing sunshine and soaring temperatures.
![]()
The summer may have only just begun but there are plenty of families already enjoying the beach and everything that goes with it, from picnics to wading, to launching boats, to searching for sea creatures!
The glorious weather has also given everyone the opportunity to walk along the headland by Rhoscolyn Bay and admire the boats out on the water.
Pleasantly cool evenings have proved a welcome contrast to the scorching afternoons and have become a popular time to relax and enjoy a drink and some company at the Silver Bay bistro.
All in all it’s shaping up to be one of the best half-term holidays for some time and it’s all thanks to the British weather. With not long to go until the start of the school summer holidays we’re hoping that this is a sign of things to come.
There will be lots of fun outdoor activities going on in the local Anglesey area over the coming months, including hiking, sailing, canoeing and horse riding, so fingers crossed the sun will stick with us for the duration of the holiday season.
